Rob was here

My brother Rob just spent a great week with us.  He flew in to Chicago on Sunday and spent a few days with us and then we drove to Michigan for Thanksgiving.  We had a good time seeing everyone but it was best to be able to spend some time with him.

The kids loved being able to see “Uncle Rob” again.  Brad especially got to play some playstation games as well as Age III with Rob.

It was good to see him again.  I hope he enjoyed it because we sure did.

CoCoRaHS

We changed our station name with CoCoRaHS.  We no longer are JF38 but are now IL-KN-1.  Started posting measurements on Friday.  Good stuff.  We were the first to sign up in Kane County and the third or 4th in the state.  I like the new website CoCoRaHS has compared to when I was volunteering in Colorado.  Much easier to post and view data.

Check out the site and sign up if you are interested in weather.

Ex-Michigan coach Bo Schembechler dies

We lost a legend.  I remember crisp fall days listening to the radio while we were doing work outside as a kid.  On the radio, the Wolverines were playing (And usually beating) other teams.  Such fond memories and Bo was a big part of it.  Even though Bo hasn’t been at the helm of the team for a while, everyone will miss him.

May he rest in peace.

CoCoRaHS - Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network

CoCoRaHS is coming to Illinois!  We were pare of this in Colorado and are excited about being a part of it in Illinois now.

This is a rain and hail study where you take daily measurements of the precipitation and report on any hail.  I look forward to seeing how the rain here in Illinois is different from Colorado.

Check out the below link and sign up yourself if you are interested!

Who says we’re old?

You’re never to old to have a LAN party.  Last night the Snurka’s and Stanley’s proved that age isn’t everything in playing computer games.  We packed up our laptops and went over to the Stanley’s house for a little Age of Empires action.

In the first game, Brad and Doug teamed up with a computer to whack Jen, Kala and Jon.  In the second game, the 5 of us teamed up to take on 2 expert computers.  It was kind of fun to work together on strategy to beat some very hard components.

Of course we were up late and all were tired, but these old bones still know how to play.  ;-)

Birthday Money

During the time frame of my birthday i got $260. You think wow well i spent $255 on a brand new snowboared. And i’m going to shred those hills. And for Christmas i would like some more money so i can get a really cool helmet that i would use very much, and still some toys. Well i’ll be online and at home so give me a call so we can talk about stuff.  And thank-you all VERY much

Rah Rah Update

For those of you unaware, Robyn has begun to take cheerleading classes.  We have some photos posted on the photo page of her.  She is in her second 8 week session and so far has learned several cheers that the high school does during football games!  We ran into a few cheerleaders at the last game we were at and Robyn reminded them of a cheer that they had not done yet.  It’s called “stomp and shake it”.  Anyways, Robyn was very excited when the girls lead off the next quarter with her cheer.

It’s been fun to watch Robyn become more confident in herself.  She is also doing lifts and pyramids - I haven’t seen any of those yet but we’ll have a parents session at the end of this eight weeks and I’ll see if I can get some video.

Non-Running

I Lied.

I said that I don’t care what happens after the marathon as long as I finish the race. Well I haven’t run but once since the marathon and that time my hips and back hurt. Looks like my back is a little messed up and it’s preventing me from running right now. Can’t tell you how much I long to go out and just run an easy 4 or 5 miles. But not right now.

I saw Dr. Mark on Wednesday. He’s my chiropractor and he said my hips were out of alignment more than an inch. He corrected them about an inch before the race and now I guess they’re out of whack again. He set them again on Wednesday, but my back is still pretty sore. So much so that it’s hard to get into and out of my car and some other basic movements. I’m going to start some exercises soon to strengthen it but I think I need to wait until it’s better. I am doing some stretches but my range of motion is pretty limited.

So much for running right now. I was hoping to keep my long runs between 10 and 12 miles every other week just to keep my fitness up, but right now it’s looking like I’ll be taking a break. :-(

So keep praying for me that my back gets better and that I can get back into running.
