Quote & UnQuote

Check out some of the best sport quotes of the year collected by a local columist.  My favorites are from Bill Walsh (How true!), Ernie Harwell, Bobby Bowden and Pete Rose.

What are your favorites?

From our family to yours

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry and Blessed Christmas.  Please remember the reason for season and keep Him in your thoughts and prayers.

We are keeping each of you in our prayers as well.

I hope everyone enjoys their day.

Finally some music from Robyn

We just received some midi files from Robyn’s piano teacher and I created a new page for her stuff.

Check her out playing some recent tunes at: http://snurkafamily.com/robyn-music/

Just 3 more!

Actually, I only need 2.6 more miles to hit 625 for the year.  Not too bad when I don’t think I’ve ever gone over 500 miles in one year.

Now, the fun part….Getting in those few miles.  My hips are still out of whack.  Every time Dr. Mark adjusts them, they get screwed up within a couple of days.  My back is really tired and sore because of this.  I’ll be able to get in the miles, but I wish I could enjoy it more.

I do thank the Lord for this wonderful year of running.  Except for the last 32 miles (Over 2 months) I’ve enjoyed most of it.  Running with the group from Christ Community has been great and uplifting.  While I still miss my running friends from Colorado, I have found a good group of people to run with.

So this closes out another year of running.  I’ll probably have to lay low for the first part of 2007 until Dr. Mark gets me figured out.  Then it’s off to the races again.

Have a good one and keep on running!

Jon

Found an old-time friend

I’ve been trolling the Internet lately and found some info on a friend from my CSU days.  Remember Trin Gutierrez?  Well I finally tracked him down.  He’s still in the Army, has done a couple of tours of Iraq and is going to Afghanistan soon.

Here’s a link to some of his art stuff: Artsoldier35 on deviantART

I can’t tell you how good it is to hear back from him.  I wish him the best and hope we can restart our friendship.

Here’s to old friends!

Check out these snow amounts!

Wish I was in Denver.  Take a look at the link below.  If it doesn’t bring up Colorado, select it from the Drop down.  Also select the date 12/21 and select New Snow.

Some places up to 40 inches.

Bummer

Our Christmas will be a little quieter.  Due to weather in both Denver and Seattle, Lonnie and Kevin will not be joining us as planned for Christmas.  We’re all pretty bummed, but we understand.

As of this writing, DIA is closed and they have around 18 ” snow.  Kevin in Seattle area has been without power for a week now and doesn’t want to leave his cats in the cold (Don’t blame him).

So it’ll be quiet here in Illinois.  Quick prayers for people in both Denver and Seattle as they ride out the storms.

digg - The ten most dangerous toys of all time

Come on now…Who didn’t play with Jarts?  I don’t think I ever maimed anyone, but those things could be rather dangerous in the wrong hands I guess.  Isn’t that what toys are all about?  See who can survive childhood?  ;-)

Send us yours please.  Love to all - K

Shay looks big!

Shay looks like he is going to be very big.  It is great that he is house trained.  Is he in the house during the day when you are gone?

Can we get a Christmas list soon?  Time is flying and we need to do some shopping.

We have some snow on the ground.  Do you still have some left by you?  According to the weather, it has been cold in Chicago.  We’ve had had some chilly weather, also.

Talk to you soon,

Love you all,
Mom/Grandma

Meet Shay

Shay is a Male Shepherd mix who joined our family this past Sunday.  We went to the Animal House Shelter in Huntley and after seeing 5 dogs, Shay worked his way into our hearts.

He is 5 months old and is playful but not too much so.  He seems to be house trained and crate trained (YEAH!) and has a great temperment.

We’ll be posting more about our adoption as we get to know Shay better.

Hi Jon, Kala, Bradley, and Robyn,

This is a great way for me to send you messages.  I just have to make sure to take the time to do it.
I am so glad that Rob was able to visit you for Thanksgiving.  He said he enjoyed himself.  It was good for him to see all the relatives, also. I feel sorry for Nan, with the steroids she is on.  I don’t know if she is going to go off of them or what, be we were surprised to see her in September.  She seems to feel well.
I have been extremely busy.  I went to the Dr. a couple weeks ago and they knees.  I definitely have osteoarthritis.  I am supposed to walk as much as possible and do daily exercises.  The exercises are very simple and have helped all ready.  I think I just needed to get the muscles stretched out.
I am really enjoying my experience online with UOP.  I am almost finished with my third week of training and have one week to go.  I hope that I get the job. I still have to be mentored through a class, then if I do well I will be invited to join the faculty.  They do have all my information, and I am all ready set up on payroll.  Working online is really great, because I can take more time to answer questions.  But the assignments are thought provoking and I really work on my answers. In addition we need to make 3-6 postings a day 5 days out of 7 to the other class members. I have been online a lot.  I can sometimes get on at a school where I am teaching, and that helps.
We are planning on getting our Christmas tree today.  We don’t cut one anymore.  We go to a very nice nursery in Parker were they have them all indoors. That is good today because it is really cold.  They recut the base, then bundle it and put in on our car.

Love to you all,
Mom/Grandma
PS Can you put spell-check on this program?  My messages can’t leave home without it.

PPS Sorry this is so long!

Snow…Finally!

We had a snowstorm last night that was the biggest since we moved here.  Of course, 8 inches isn’t really much to talk about, but this town thinks it’s big.  Everything was shut down for at least half of the day.

The kids didn’t have school and I didn’t go in so we went sledding and they spent a good part of the day outside.  I can’t tell you how happy they were to have snow.  We really didn’t have any snowstorms last year that produced enough snow to sled so today was a treat.

Since we are now on CoCoRaHS, you can see how much we get in precipitation and snow at:

http://www.cocorahs.org/Maps/ViewMap.aspx?type=stations

I am Kane County #1 in Illinois.  I found out today that they signed up 50 volunteers in Illinois in one day!  This thing is really taking off.

   Let’s bring on more snow!
