Russell Update

Russell pulled through surgery just fine on Tuesday.  The doctors are confident that they got all of the tumor but their pretty sure Russell with have to undergo chemo just to make sure.  He is recovering well and maybe even went home today!

Thank you for your prayers and keep praying for him and Karen and Brian and Garrett (Brother).

Prayers for Russell

I just found out that a friend’s son will be undergoing brain surgery tomorrow morning (Tuesday).  Russell had lukemia when he was much younger but recently passed his 5th year of being in remission.

For the last few weeks Russell hasn’t had much strength and has been kind of lethargic.  The doctors did a CAT scan and found a tumor at the front of his brain.  I just spoke with Brian and he said if you need to have brain surgery, removing something from the front is the best place because it’s the most accessible.

Obviously right now there is not much more information.  All I ask now is prayers for Russell for healing, for the doctor’s skill and strength for the family.

  Thanks

Not quite in time

Friday I decided to go to Lansing and try to see Aunt Nancy before she passed away.  She had been going downhill all week and was transferred to a Hospice there on Wednesday.

So I started out at 6:30 to beat traffic which I did but I got a call around 9:30 CT that I was too late.  I had driven as far as Battle Creek, MI and was only about 50 miles away but there really was nothing I could do so I turned around.  I guess Aunt Nancy passed away in the morning but none of her family had arrived yet.  I called around 7:00 to confirm with Hospice that she was seeing visitors and they said it should be ok, but to check with Bill.  I don’t have Bill’s number but since they sounded positive, I kept on.

Now the plans begin.  Not sure when the funeral is yet.  My Colorado family is planning on flying to Chicago on Sunday night and we’ll drive with them to Michigan Monday.  I would imagince the funeral will be Tuesday or Wednesday.  I’ll take as much time from work as I need.

Please keep us in your prayers as we get ready to travel.  Especially keep Bill, Mike and Sara in your prayers as they deal with the lose of a spouse and Mother.

Thanks

Sad Weekend

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you my Aunt Nancy (My Godmother) went into kidney failure this weekend and expected to be around for only a few more days. Nan is my Dad’s sister and has been the matriarch of our family since Grandma died in 2003. She had systemic infection that took hold of her body last week and started shutting down her systems. With her kidney’s not functioning, there is not much hope.

Please pray for her, her family and for those of us who will be traveling soon.

Bible Study on the Book of Revelation

My men’s small group will be starting a study on Revelation this coming Friday. Should be really interesting. This will be a pretty intensive study taking more than 12 weeks. I’m looking forward to getting back in to Revelation. It’s been since around high school since the last time I’ve done an intensive study of the book. We are using the Life Change series book from Navpress.

Let me know your thoughts on Studying the book of Revelations. It seems like there are many interprations and I’m hoping a praying that we are following the right study and learn from this study.

Puritan prayer of Paradoxes

Lately God has been showing me how much of life involves paradoxes. Today we received the prayer below - I really enjoyed it and wanted to share it with you. God has been shown me that what he desires most of me is truth and brokenness…so that He can begin to do the work that He needs to in my life. Praying that I have a willing and steadfast spirit to allow brokenness to be a part of my daily walk with Him.
Lord, high and holy, meek and lowly, thou hast brought me to the valley of vision, where I live in the depths but see thee in the heights; Hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold thy glory.
LET ME LEARN by paradox…
that the way down is the way up, that to be low is to be high, that the broken heart is the healed heart, that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit, that the repenting soul is the victorious soul, that to have nothing is to possess all, that to bear the cross is to wear the crown, that to give is to receive, that the valley is the place of vision.
Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from the deepest wells, and the deeper the wells the brighter the stars shine; LET ME FIND thy light in my darkness, thy life in my death, thy joy in my sorrow, thy grace in my sin, thy riches in my poverty, thy glory in my valley.

AMEN

Have a blessed day!

Friday Update.

Grandma K and Uncle Kevin arrived safe and sound yesterday.  Of course we’ve been inside the whole time because it’s darn cold out!  Brad already got Kevin to play MS Flight Simulator X with him.  Pretty cool that they can share a cockpit and work together to fly a plane.
We found out this morning that Kala’s Great Uncle Elton passed away this morning.  (Uncle Elton was Grandma Pep’s brother)  So, we’re working on flight plans to come back to Denver.   I’m coming out anyway to be with my sister while she has surgery on Wednesday but it looks like Kala will be coming out as well.

So prayers please for Millie (Elton’s wife) as well as Denny and Judy and family as they work through this loss.  Also prayers for us as we travel back to Colorado please.

Rough Start

It’s been a rough start to the year for me.  The first week I had shingles and had to stay home due to being contagious.  Luckily I could work from home just as well so I didn’t really miss any work, but it sure messed up the rythym.  Thank the Lord that I had a mild case and wasn’t to uncomfortable.

Then my son decided to share his cough with me.  I started coughing around Friday and have been since.  Of course I am traveling all this week which has made me more miserable.  After 3 trips to CVS I gave in and called my doctor to call in a perscription.  Once I got the good stuff in my, I slept well.  Thanks Doc!

I have also been chronicling my problems with my back.  I am learning more about it but I also had a weird episode.  Last Thursday night driving home, my back under my left shoulder felt “Tight”.  Got home and Kala started working on it when I had a spasm.  I don’t think I’ve ever had a spasm like that before.  I had trouble moving (But not breathing) and was stuck in some weird positions.

Called Dr. Mark and they told me to ice it and see them in the morning.  My lovely wife went to scouts for me and I kept the ice pack on.  Friday morning it actually felt a lot better.  The spasm was gone but even to today, it is tight.

BUT, I’ve figured out my lower back problems aren’t caused by running.  Dr. Mark has given me some stretches to put my hips back in place.  So I did some experimenting to see what causes it to go out of Whack.  Running…No, Sleeping….No, Driving to work and a full work day…Yep.  So I need to work on ergonomics at work and find the best positions.  It’s all a learning process.

The good part is that I have run a few times without much problem.  I’m really glad to be able to do that and even ran with my old boss/friend Diane in Richmond while on a business trip.  Very enjoyable to good to run with her.

So it’s been a rough start, but with some stretching, proper eating and exercise and the Lord’s help (Ok, it’s mostly him!) I should be getting back on track.

Have a great day!

From our family to yours

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry and Blessed Christmas.  Please remember the reason for season and keep Him in your thoughts and prayers.

We are keeping each of you in our prayers as well.

I hope everyone enjoys their day.

Bummer

Our Christmas will be a little quieter.  Due to weather in both Denver and Seattle, Lonnie and Kevin will not be joining us as planned for Christmas.  We’re all pretty bummed, but we understand.

As of this writing, DIA is closed and they have around 18 ” snow.  Kevin in Seattle area has been without power for a week now and doesn’t want to leave his cats in the cold (Don’t blame him).

So it’ll be quiet here in Illinois.  Quick prayers for people in both Denver and Seattle as they ride out the storms.

Poem of the Week

This week I decided to have us learn a poem…it’s all about perspective and attitude.

Little drops of water, little grains of sand, make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land.

Thus the little moments, humble thought they may be, make the mighty ages of eternity.

Senslessness

Kala and I were pretty shook up with the news from Colorado that a gunman had gone into a high school and ended up killing a girl. We lived in the Columbine area when that shooting took place in 1999 and it’s hard to forget the images. It’s amazing how something like this can bring back feelings and memories. To this day I get a little disturbed when I see a helicopter hovering because of the number of helicopters at that time.

While we do not know anyone directly affected by this tragedy, we feel for them. Platte Canyon High School was in my school’s conference so we played them in sports. I never really knew anyone that went there, but this still hits close to home.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim, the families of the students and staff as well as the emergency personell who responded. This will be a hard one to get over.
